Negatives (in comparison to Deus Ex, which was used as a reference for much of the review)
- Not as much freedom to explore the grounds of a mission before entering a building.
- Direct approach is almost too effective.
- Boss fights. There are
, but they are unavoidable. Cannot subvert them. You must fight the bosses.
Positives - While the direct approach is a little too effective, the best way to get out of a situation is through subversion and improvisation.
- Buidlings feel like real environments. Can access pretty much everything.
- Third person cover system is slick. Big improvement over the original game. Game pulls out to a third person view when in cover mode. Shows you what directions you are hidden from. Not realistic but it means stealth is a viable option throughout the entire game (I guess except during boss fights?).
- Lots of augementations to improve your stealth game.
- Reviewer loved the moments of "pain-porn." Feels very satisfying to sneak up on someone and knock them out or execute them.
- Over 60 options for upgrading augmentations.
- Dialogue is a game in itself. Not a "dark-side" or "light-side" system. Have to be very careful in your choices or you could permanently deprive yourself of useful information.
- Conversations feel like the "real boss fights." "Story junkie's blissful overdose."
Conclusion - Not quite as good as Deus Ex. It is, though, "the Deus Ex of our Age" (lol, not the game we deserve, but the game we need!). Puts almost everything of its genre, today, to shame.
- Rewards original thinking.
- For "gamers that love freedom more than they love firing assault rifles at the Middle East."
