"Frank Lapikas, game designer on DX:HR, confirmed 3 difficulty levels: Casual, Normal and 'Deus Ex'. The PC version of DX:HR will feature DirectX 11 support for improved visuals.
It will have more advanced AI to compensate for the precision offered by the mouse, in addition to optimized controls, and a unique UI tailored to the platform"
IS THE COVER SYSTEM OPTIONAL? A big resounding Yes. The lack of lean keys is an annoyance, but only a minor one, and they could still be added in – either by Eidos Montreal or later by fans. Playing without the cover system actually forces you to be more stealthly, more cautious, and ended up being a lot more fun. I didn’t miss it at all, and it only gets better and easier later on with upgrades. Plus, it freed up the Right Mouse Button to be Aim Down Sights… or even Use, if you’re proper hardcore.
ARE THE TAKEDOWNS OPTIONAL? Hmm. I’ll say Yes again, as they weren’t necessary to win the level or have fun, and with the Stun Gun you’ll still be able to take enemies down. However, the lack of melee weapons or any other non-ammo-based weaponry means that it is definitely missed. I think people will choose to keep using them. Don’t worry, they’re not that big an annoyance. I personally love them. Still, it’s a good challenge for a second playthrough, not using takedowns.
ANY OTHER THIRD-PERSON MISSED? Ladders are unfortunately all third-person for some reason, although this could also become optional or be edited by fans (don’t see why not). The Icarus Landing system however, the Augmentation that slows your fall, is third-person and so utterly cool it will be missed. Still, totally optional like all the other Augmentations.
FINAL RESULT
As suspected and reported, third-person in Deus Ex: Human Revolution is indeed totally optional. There are parts missing, like a lean function and melee combat, but otherwise it is totally possible to play the game in first-person only – with the one exception of ladders, which may become first-person later. Furthermore, I actually had more fun without the cover system to use as a crutch during stealth. Unbind the cover system and stick the difficulty on ‘Give Me Deus Ex’ and you’ll have a challenge worthy of a second playthrough. You can bet I’ll be doing just that come August. I hope you will be too.
I must admit, I was worried about this experiment. I’d reassured several people that most of the third-person stuff in Human Revolution was optional, but after thinking about it I was concerned that I’d prove myself wrong. I did use Takedowns and the cover system a lot during my first playthrough, it was possible the game really was coded to use them.
I think it’s a testament to the game and the development team that I went through a hostile area with low-to-no ammo, no takedowns or melee attacks, and no “cheating” cover system, and not only did I get through it I actually had more fun and did better than I did first time round. Come August I may leave them in… or I may not. It’ll be my choice, either way.
Tante bellissime notizie.
